I hope you enjoyed this video- I want to encourage women to serve God in every aspect of their lives. Being a Proverbs 31 woman is not about be “perfect.” It’s about living life with purpose, diligence, forgiveness, and repentance.  Us women have a way to go if we are to fill Ruth Bell’s shoes as she was the ultimate of servitude. Proverbs is such a wonderful and inspiring book full of wisdom and good advice especially when it comes to being a woman.

Proverbs 31: 26
She speaks with wisdom,
    and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
    and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
    her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
    but you surpass them all.”

Author B. Harmon:  Ruth Graham was a woman after my own heart and I believe that every woman should strive to be every bit the woman she was.  We need more women like this to inspire us especially in such stressful times.  The example she set is worthy of honor,  so with this post I honor Ruth Bell Graham, a woman I shall never forget and who inspires me to be a better woman, wife and mother.

ruthEven her children have admitted that their dad Rev. Billy Graham would not have accomplished what he did if it hadn’t of been for her strong faith in God and the Bible.  She allowed him the freedom he needed to roam the world and become the most revered and respected evangelists of all time.  She shouldered everything so he could focus on his ministry and sometimes a little time for one of his favorite sports – golf.  It was hard saying all of those good-byes and she admitted that it was during those times that she felt closer to God.

What she learned in a Godly home, she practiced daily – dependence on God in every circumstance, a love for His Word, and an indomitable spirit displayed in her smile.

Her life was ruled by the Bible and even her husband said that she was the greatest Christian he had ever seen. Lonely but never totally alone for she would say, “If you take your problems to Jesus and listen to Him, He will take care of the loneliness.

Despite the hardship of rearing five children mostly alone, she never let it dampen her spirit.  Such an inspiration she was to all who knew her and relished in her humor, intelligence, elegance, loving compassion and kindness.  She was led by an unselfish spirit and total reliance upon the person Jesus Christ.

Throughout her late years, she became bedridden with painful degenerative osteoarthritis in her spine.  And yet, she managed to glorify God and trust Him to the very end.  It was said that her back injuries began when testing out a tree swing for the grandchildren.  She fell 20 feet which ignited her arthritis and crippling her in her final years.

Ruth was born in China to missionary parents and well educated.  She met Billy when they were students at Wheaten College.  In 1943 they were married.

Ruth Graham wrote more than a dozen Christian inspirational books and shared with Billy in receiving the Congressional Gold Medal in 1996 for their contributions “to morality, racial equality, family and religion.” Visit Ruth’s Attic at the Billy Graham Library
